Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

The attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder, short ADHD, which is often diagnosed with children, is not really a disease. Partly it is a marketing strategy for methyhlphenidate (best-known brand name: ritalin). The real causes for the attention deficit have to be analysed in individual cases.

If a teacher experiences a pupil as inattentive, ask if it may be due to the teacher's unability to motivate the child. With this problem I was confronted with sufficient frequency when working as a tutor. Maybe the teacher projects his or her own problem on the children.

In some cases intellectually gifted children are unattentive because they just feel undertaxed.

Other causes for unattentiveness, hyperactivity and difficulties to concentrate may be lack of motion (it is not so natural that children sit still for many hours), too much caffeine in form of cola drinks.

So allow more motion, avoid cola and you may use soft tranquilizers like lavender, garlic or lemon tree.
