Orange Tree
Orange Tree (Citrus sinensis = Citrus aurantium var. sinensis; Rutaceae)
English also: sweet orange tree
Ibicencan: taronger
French: oranger
Both the sweet and bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantiacum) came from South East Asia and are nowadays grown in the Mediterranean.
The sweet orange is mainly used for its delicious fruits. Because of their content of vitamin C they are used against infectious diseases like influenza. When the fruits are squeezed to juice, it should be drunk soon because the vitamin C quickly gets destroyed through contact with the air.
Industrial juices are often adulterated with astronomical amounts of vitamin C. These juices are not recommendable because the body gets used to these amounts of vitamin C and consequently to excreting it.
Many people say that the orange in metabolism gets more acid than the lemon.
From leaves and flowers you can make a tea that is efficient against insomnia, nervousness, migraine and menstrual pain. For these effects the bitter orange is more efficient than the sweet one.
