Fig Tree
Fig tree (Ficus carica, Moraceae)
Ibicencan: figuera (fig: figa)
French: figuier commun
The fig tree is native to the Mediterranean. It is cultivated in many areas-also on Ibiza and the other Balears Islands-for its delicious fruits (botanically exactly: fruiting inflorescences), the figs.
The fruits, as well fresh as dried, have laxative properties and thus are recommended for people who suffer from constipation.
The latex of leaves, branches and fruits is used to cure warts. Poultices of (fresh or soaked dried) figs are also used against furuncles and abscesses.
