Lavender
Lavender, native species (Lavandula dentata, Lamiaceae)
Ibicencan: tomaní
French: lavande dentée
This species of lavender prefers alkaline soils, contrary to the French or topped lavender (Lavandula stoechas, in Ibicencan also tomaní) that does not like lime soils for which reason there is no good environment for it in great areas on Ibiza.
The different species of lavender have a sedative effect. In case of nervousness or migrane and all kinds of psychosomatic diseases lavender tea is recommended. Dried lavender is used to repel moths.
In the Pityuses (Pine Islands) there was a habit to use lavender as an incense for the houses of sick people. The lavender water (in Catalan: aigua de tomaní) which is used against molar ache and as an antiseptic is produced from this plant.
