Olive Tree
Olive tree (Olea europaea, Oleaceae)
Ibicencan: olivera (fruit: oliva)
French: olivier
The olive tree is cultivated a lot on Ibiza. For use are the fruits, the olives. There are also wild olive trees (in Catalan: ullastre, oastre, rabell, in Spanish: acebuche).
The olive oil is known to slow down the aging and to be healthy for the heart. Who has problems with high cholesterol, should replace butter with olive oil. How tasty! Try olive oil on bread, some spices and sea salt (without iodine).
Also the leaves are said to slow down aging, they can be used for tea or for a skin lotion. Reportedly, the wild olives show best results. And on Ibiza the leaves are known to lower the blood pressure.
On Ibiza soap was made out of olive oil and caustic soda.
